About the project

Team Eklavya is a student run organisation of Civil Engineers, established at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. Team Eklavya aims to participate in the National Concrete Canoe Competition held by the Amercian Society of Civil Engineers in USA.

We are a group of 26 aspiring Civil Engineering under-grads, passionate about innovation and advancement in the ever-green field of engineering. Our motto, "Engineering beyond bull eye" is a guiding principle for us.

Team Eklavya participates in the National Concrete Canoe Competition held by the American Society of Civil Engineers in USA every year. More than 100 universities participate in this prestigious competition. After a year of detailed planning and dedicated execution by each member of the team, we build a light weight concrete canoe. The process of building involves various technical and non-technical aspects.

We participate in various competition nationwide and internationally. In 2016, we were the first Indian team to sail our concrete canoe "Holi" in international waters in 2017, our canoe "Ambush" was the second lightest canoe amongst all, and in 2018, our canoe "Karvaan" won the regional competition held in India. Our journey is long yet inspiring. We aim to participate in the NCCC 2019 to be held in Florida, USA and continue the legacy.

Why crowdfunding?

We are a team of 26 committed and hardworking Civil Engineering under-grads who burn the midnight oil to transform dreams into reality. We began our journey with the Concrete Canoe Competition in IIT Madras and were given recognition in a major newspaper of the country. Our canoe "Holi" was amongst the first from India to venture into International waters. After toiling for days, we brought our second canoe to life- "Ambush". Achieving our best mix ever, we obtained our lightest canoe which was awarded the second lightest at NCCC. Our Steel Bridge "Veer" added another feather to our cap. Being the very first attempt from any University in India, ‘Veer’ received the "Spirit of The Competition" award. In 2018, Team Eklavya was the only Indian team to be qualified for the Nationals held in USA by winning the regionals of the NCCC held in India. We are a team not only because we work together, we are a team because we respect, trust and care for each other. We have achieved great accolades in our journey this far, and want to maintain this winning streak. Now we require your support to accomplish our dreams and bring a revolution in the construction technology.

How will the money be used?

Rs. 12000 in Material cost

Rs. 20000 in Logistics

Rs. 20000 in Pre-stressing equiment

Rs. 18000 in Mould

Rs. 5000 in Paddling Gear

What are the risks and challenges associated with your project?

“Challenges are not stop signs, they are guidelines”

The construction of a concrete canoe may sound enthralling, but it comes with its own set of risks and challenges. The availability of the required material with the expected properties is a usual concern involved with our project. The results from the trial and error of hundreds of mixes might not give satisfactory results if not done carefully.

The actual nature of the hull cannot be determined even with detailed and heedful structural calculations. However, the vehemence and the belief of the team helps us dodge the complications and arrive at the best solution for any problem.

Why should you believe me and why should you fund this project?

We, Team Eklavya follow our dreams, believe in ourselves and never give up. We will make sure to maintain full transparency with our donors and keep them informed about where their money is being spent. We pledge not to let you down.

This project is going to be tedious but we promise to see it through to the end. We promise you that your contribution towards team Eklavya will not go in vain. The results are going to be magnificent! And only YOU can help us accomplish our dream.
