Keep metal alive by funding one of India’s biggest metal festival – Bangalore Open Air.
What is Bangalore Open Air?
Bangalore Open Air (BOA) is a metal festival that takes place every year in Bangalore and is arguably one of Asia’s biggest metal festivals. Since its inception in 2012, the festival has thrilled Indian headbangers by bringing down some of the biggest metal acts on the planet like the legendary Kreator, Iced Earth, Ihsahn, Dark Tranquillity, Animals as Leaders, Suidakra and Leprous.
The festival has also featured the cream of the crop of the local metal scene like Demonic Resurrection, Dying Embrace, Kryptos, Bevar Sea and many more as well as hosting the finals of the Wacken Metal Battle – India leg.
The festival aims at bringing quality international and local metal acts to India and to show the world that India is a rising metal nation with audiences as rabid as anywhere else in the world.
How did I come up with Bangalore Open Air?
I’ve visited 40 festivals around the world, including Wacken – the world’s largest metal festival organised in Germany. Realising that an event of this kind is absolutely necessary in India, I organised the first Bangalore Open Air in 2011. It was created with one singular goal in mind: to give Indian metal heads the ultimate metal festival experience they can call their own. They no longer had to save up for months on end to travel all the way to Europe for a few days of watching their favourite bands. BOA was where it was all happening for just a fraction of the cost.
Despite the fact that two successful editions with over 2000 people in the audience were funded with my own hard-earned money and without any sponsors, the success of BOA made it all worth it.
What sets the 2014 Bangalore Open Air apart?
What really makes 2014 BOA unique is simply the fact that this will be a metal festival run by the metal heads, for the metalheads. The fans – YOU – will make the festival happen by funding the festival and backing it. This time YOU will show faith in the festival by funding it without knowing much about the artist line up or the venue (except that it will be in Bangalore).
Why can't we divulge the artist line-up right now?
Because before we can announce the line up, we will need to book the artist by paying them the artist fee. And we can pay the artist fee only when we have raised the money. And this is what this crowdfunding is all about - it's about the metal heads coming together and making the festival happen, showing faith and funding the festival. Don't worry, I promise you the best artist line up, I've given you the best artists in the past as well. So keep the faith and show the faith. Make the festival happen!
So, who am I?
I’m Salman. Like with many people, my foray into the world of metal started with Iron Maiden back in school and I haven’t looked back since. I was determined from a very young age to devote myself to the music and make a mark on the fledgling Indian metal scene. Since I couldn’t play an instrument, I decided that I would follow two of my biggest inspirations, Rod Smallwood (Iron Maiden) and Peter Grant (Led Zeppelin) into the insane world of band management and subsequently organizing my own gigs and ultimately my own metal festival.
I started Infinite Dreams and took up the management of one of India’s biggest metal bands, Kryptos, helping the band tour Europe successfully in both 2010 and 2013. Then I managed India’s legendary metal icons Millennium a few years later. Soon enough I had expanded my operations to Europe and became the official tour promoter in India for bands such as Dark Tranquillity, Orphaned Land, Suidakra and Degradead and for the Wacken Metal Battle India, run by the biggest metal festival in the world, Wacken Open Air.
I have successfully organized two editions of BOA by bringing down artists like Suidakra and the metal legends Kreator, Iced Earth, Dark Tranquillity, Ihshan, Animals as Leaders and Leprous.

Who’s in the Bangalore Open Air team?
BOA has a large team of people right from security, logistics, operations, and transport departments to the technical, press, online & digital and merchandising departments. All these people are working towards making BOA even more successful than ever and ensuring everything, and I mean everything, is perfectly in place for the event. With the event being on such a large scale, everything before, during and after has to be organised into perfection and these are the people that make it happen.
Find more about them in the team section below.
A SMALL NOTE:
1. ALL TICKETS ARE TRANSFERABLE. In case you cannot come but still want other rewards, you can transfer the ticket to your friends, other fans or your special ones. You will need to email us before the event to update us about who is replacing you at the event. Email address is - firstname.lastname@example.org.
2. IF YOU TRANSFER THE TICKETS & don't attend the event, you will only get the merchandize, name on standees, banners and facebook but the one who comes & attends the festival instead of you will get other rewards such as VIP entry, meet and greet artists and party invite.
The venue with a capacity of 2500 people has already been identified, the production will be handled by the pros at J Davis Pro-sound, all this project needs is money to pay the bands, venue and the production team.
I don’t think this can happen in its true spirit with corporates, sponsors, and unwanted outside influences. With just the audience who cares about the music as much as I do, I firmly believe, that we can come together and make this festival one of the most anticipated and talked about metal festivals in the world.
My plan with crowdfunding is to allow the fans to buy the tickets in advance and pledge money to the event. This is going to make it the first fan-funded metal festival in India and our funder fans won’t just get tickets, but also many exclusive rewards. Scroll up and have a look at everything in store for you, from buying a ticket for yourself to meeting and greeting some of the legendary metal artists backstage.
Put your faith in us and we’ll pay back by bringing down some of the most intense metal acts from around the world for you!
The passionate team behind all the Bangalore Open Air comes together this time to create history!
Like with many people, my foray into the world of metal started with Iron Maiden back in school and I haven’t looked back since. I was determined from a very young age to devote myself to the music and make a mark on the fledgling Indian metal scene. Since I couldn’t play an instrument I decided that I would follow two of my biggest inspirations, Rod Smallwood (Iron Maiden) and Peter Grant (Led Zeppelin) into the insane world of band management and subsequently organizing my own gigs and ultimately my own metal festival.
I started my own event and management venture, INFINITE DREAMS, with practically nothing in my pocket but with a head full of ideas and far reaching plans. Eventually I took up full time management of one of India’s biggest metal bands, Kryptos, helping the band tour Europe successfully in both 2010 and 2013 and also mananged India’s legendary metal icons Millennium a few years later. Soon enough I had expanded my operations to Europe which led to me becoming the official tour promoter in India for bands such as Dark Tranquillity, Orphaned Land, Suidakra and Degradead and for the Wacken Metal Battle India, which is run by the biggest metal festival in the world, Wacken Open Air.
I ultimately realized my dream in 2012 when I organized my own metal festival in my hometown Bangalore, which featured Suidakra and the metal legends Kreator. With the success of the first edition of the festival, I was determined to break down more barriers and in 2013 the second edition of Bangalore Open Air saw the light of day with massive acts like Iced Earth, Dark Tranquillity, Ihshan, Animals as Leaders and Leprous all featuring as part of a stellar line up.
With the third edition of Bangalore Open Air scheduled to take place in September 2014, I aim to make it a memorable festival that will put India on the global metal map and prove to the world that metal heads in India are some of the most passionate in the world.
It’s not just me alone in the BOA journey, it’s the joint effort of my dream team you see above in the picture. Here’s their quick introduction:

As with most things in life, the biggest hurdle is definitely raising enough finance to make the dream happen. Unfortunately in the real world money makes the world go round but when directed towards something that will give music lovers and metalheads in particular an experience of a lifetime, the results can be magical. At the end of the day we are an outsider culture and we will forever be outsiders. We are never offered help or support from the mainstream society. It is up to us to ensure that the music never dies and the spirit of the music we all cherish lives on forever.
Failure is currently not an option and I will move heaven and earth to ensure that BOA takes place. However if all the fates conspire against this event and it is unable to take place due to financial or any other reasons, then I will start planning for the year after but it will not deter me from achieving what I set out to do.
There will of course be legal contingencies in place that will ensure that such a thing will never happen. It also boils down to how much trust and faith you are willing to place in this festival.
ALL THE TICKETS ARE TRANSFERABLE. In case you cannont come but still want other rewards, you can transfer the ticket to your freinds, other fans or your special ones. You will need to email us beofre the event to update us about who is replacing you at the event E:Mail email@example.com

We cannot announce the artists right now because artists need to be paid before their names can be announced. But that's why we are crowdfunding. We will definitely announce the artists closer to our crowdfunding goal. But we promise to make is as entertaining as we have made in the past by bringing down acts like Kreator, Iced Earth, Ihsahn, Animal as Leaders, Dark Tranquility. Just keep the faith and fund the festival!
It is simply buying tickets in advance so we can make the festival happen. We could've gone to the sponsors and in all honesty we did go to them. But they refuse to fund anything that doesn't fit their brand image. So we have no choice left but to go our fans, to make the festival happen. And hey, if we indeed raise the money, this will be history, this will be the first fan-funded festival in India
The Venue will be announced at the end of the campaign
