Toronto International Film Festival 2017 announces its first line up of films

TIFF 2017 has announced its first line-up of films for its 42nd edition from September 7 to the 17th. The films are part of two of the festival’s sections: Gala Presentations (14 titles) and Special Presentations (33 titles).
This year, Toronto film festival has made a concerted effort to include female filmmakers in its Gala section. The festival’s artistic director, Cameron Bailey, while announcing the line-up, said that, “We’re seeing more great films from women to choose from, and we are making an effort not just at the festival but across the board to open up space.”
Mother! | Darron Aronofsky
Starring acting powerhouses, Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, and Michelle Pfeiffer, Mother!, has been billed as psychological thriller about a couple, whose tranquil existence is threatened by the arrival of uninvited guests.
Surburbicon | George Clooney
Directed by George Clooney and writer by Clooney and the Coen brothers, this comedy stars Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, and Oscar Isaac in leading roles and deals with the upheaval in the life of a ‘perfect’ family after a home invasion goes wrong.
First They Killed My Father | Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie has directed, co-written and co-produced this film for Netflix. The film is an adaptation of the memoir by Loung Ung, and deals with the horrors of the Cambodian genocide at the hands of the murderous Khmer Rouge regime.
