Raag Desh Trailer – A film that’s bringing the Red Fort Trials back!

Tigmanshu Dhulia’s historical drama Raag Desh, set in the backdrop of World War II, follows the real-life story of 3 officers from the British Indian Army who were captured, imprisoned and later tried at the Red Fort. These courtroom trials were famously recorded as the 'Red Fort Trials' and led to the immense popularity of the slogan, 'Patriots Not Traitors'.
While Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Mohit Marwah will play the lead roles, one of our super successful campaigners, Kenny Basumatary of the Local Kung Fu 2 fame will be seen playing the role of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
In a conversation with Eclectic Northeast Kenny said, “The film will look at how Netaji formed the INA with soldiers who were fighting for the British in the Second World War. When INA was defeated, three officers, namely Colonel Prem Sahgal, Colonel Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon, Major General Shah Nawaz Khan were court-martialled and their trial was held at Red Fort. The trial received huge public attention at that time, with Jawaharlal Nehru appointing the best lawyers for them. Ultimately, the British were forced to commute the sentences on these three officials. This film will bring the entire episode on celluloid.”
The trailer enmeshed with rock music, grey tones, marching soldiers and a flash of the Nazi Germany flag looks like a film that has travelled time — we’re hoping that it gets the ruins of war right.
This isn’t the first historical film by Tigmanshu Dhulia. He also directed the multiple National Award-winning film, Paan Singh Tomar. Raag Desh is set to hit the screens on 28th of July.
