Film Festivals Across The World Especially For Films Shot On Smartphones

Today filmmaking isn’t limited just to the professionals, especially when it comes to the gear. One can begin their journey as a filmmaker using their pocket smartphone. In its affordability and practicality, a smartphone works wonders with its helpful moviemaking apps and HD quality camera.

The Mobile Film Festival, Paris, at present is celebrating its 11th year. The festival selects 75 one-minute films from 27 countries (India included), shot on a particular theme. This year, the theme is thought provoking messages about climate change. The event is organised around the end of September, annually.
Based out of Spain, the festival has been annually active since 2012. It hosts shortfilms entirely shot on the phone, and entertains entries from the 1st of January to the 31st of August. The festival takes place in Barcelona, usually on the 16th of October.
Founded in 2011, The Original iPhone Film Festival has been encouraging revolutionising the method of filmmaking. The only requirement here is an iPhone or an iPad, or what the company calls it, “a film studio in your pocket!” The film festival generally takes place at New York, in the month of January.
Despite being called the iPhone Film Festival, the fest accepts films shot on any mobile device, with mandate to have a minimum of 70% of the film shot on phone. The festival takes place in March, in California and is currently in its 6th year.
The festival will be celebrating its 6th anniversary on the 29th & 30th of April, 2017 in San Diego, California. Organised by S.Bartello Productions, the event offers a very ambitious mobile film resource center and is a great place to learn about making your next mobile masterpiece.
With digital filmmaking technology getting cheaper every year, numerous filmmakers are coming out with fresh, unique and open projects. In order to celebrate these films, the Mobile Motion Film Festival was founded. The next MoMo will be held in May 2017, Zurich, Switzerland.
And finally, an Asian smartphone film festival. The Pocket Cinema Festival is the first smartphone film festival in Asia held in Karachi, Pakistan. The event incorporates screenings, conferences and workshops in its 9-day time frame, in mid-December.
