This article is the second installment as a part of our “Facebook Ads for Filmmakers” series wherein we will teach you how you can use Facebook ads for yourself and your film’s branding and marketing.
You can read the Part 1 of this series here:
Decoding Facebook Ads for Filmmakers – Understanding the Structure of Facebook Ad Campaigns
Today, we will be looking at the different types of ads you can run on Facebook.
Facebook offers you several types of ads, which fulfill different objectives. Currently, following are the types of ads you can run on Facebook:
- Get likes for your Facebook page
- Get likes, comments & shares for your Facebook page posts
- Send people to your website
- Make people do transactions on your website (valid for ecommerce websites)
- Get app installs
- Increase app usage among people who already have your app
- Promote your Facebook event
- Get people to claim your discount offer
- Get video views
Let’s look at each of them in detail.
Likes for Your Facebook Page
You can run this ad if you have a Facebook page for yourself or your movie and you want more and more people to see it. This will increase the community size of your page, thus increasing the number of people who will see your page posts when you publish them.
When you run this type of ad, make sure you also share good content on your Facebook page frequently. This will ensure that the new people who visit and like your page, will see a page that is vibrant and active and want to keep returning to it.
Page Post Engagement Ads
Algorithmically, whatever you publish on your Facebook page is seen by only 2-5% of the people who have liked your page. Yes, we know this is not fair, and that good content should be seen by all; but can we help that now?
What you can do, instead, is use page post engagement ads. Through this type of ads you can make sure your posts reach out to an even higher number of people in your community.
You can also use this if you want your page posts to reach out to an audience outside of your Facebook page. Do note that you will be charged every time someone likes, comments or shares your post.
You should run this ad only when you have something really interesting to share. Do not use this for promoting generic daily updates.
Send People to Your Website
These ads are useful when you have a website and you want people to visit it. It can be your blog, the official site of your film or even your Wishberry crowdfunding campaign page.
You will be charged every time someone clicks on your ad and visits your website.
Website Conversion Ads
This is very useful for e-commerce based websites. Facebook gives you a piece of code which you put inside the code of your website and then you can track whenever a user comes to your website via Facebook ads and makes a transaction.
Use this only if you are selling something on your website.
Get App Installs
Do you have an app that you want to promote? You can promote it using Facebook ads on mobile. You will be charged every time your app gets downloaded and installed by a user via Facebook.
Although, we doubt you’ll need this.
Increase App Engagement
If people who use your app are also on Facebook, then you can advertise on Facebook and encourage them to use your app.
Once again, not of much use to you, but it’s always good to know!
Promote Your Facebook Event
Are you hosting a premiere of your film or have a small meet up that you want to publicize? You can definitely use this ad, in that case.
All you need to do is to create a Facebook event and use this ad to reach out to a target group you think will be interested in the event. This is a great way to meet people offline after engaging with them on Facebook.
Get People to Claim Your Discount Offer
This ad is mostly used by store owners who are offering a discount coupon code. The code is shared via ad and you have to carry the code to the store to get discount.
Get Video Views
This is the best medium to attract people to watch your video. If you have an interesting trailer or teaser video, then this is meant for you!
This is a fairly new offering and you must try this out if you have a kickass video content.
Hope you found the above tips useful. Got doubts and questions? Feel free to share them in the comments below.
In the next part in this series we will be talking about how you can target the right kind of audience for your ads
