5 Of The Fastest Crowdfunded Campaigns From Around The World

There are successful crowdfunding campaigns, and there are crowdfunding campaigns that can be considered the Usain Bolt of crowdfunding. So wildly popular are these creative ideas, they reach their target in a matter of hours, making crowdfunding look like a piece of cake.
If you claim to be a netizen, and have no clue about Cyanide and Happiness we’re seriously judging you. Internet’s favourite weirdos launched their own “offensive card game” called Joking Hazard, not only did the fandom collectively lose its mind, but also helped the campaign cross the finish line in a matter of 27 minutes. In all, the game raised $3,246,588 from 63,758 backers.
Anyone who’s even a wee bit into web-comics is bound to have Nick Seluk’s The Awkward Yeti as their top favorites. Not surprisingly, when Nick announced a crowdfunding campaign for a card game based on his comics, people lost their minds. The campaign met its target in 30 minutes, raised double its target in 12 hours, met his first set of stretch goals in 48 hours, met the second stretch goals in a week, and by the time the crowdfunding campaign ended, it raised $526,274 from 12,798 backers.
Pebble Time is pretty much the undisputed rockstar of crowdfunding. It’s been four years since the Pebble Watch’s first crowdfunding campaign, and yet it continues to be one of the most talked about projects. It met its funding goal 49 minutes into going live. It raised $100k in 2 hours and reached $1m in 28 hours, $2m in 4 days and in all raised $10,266,845 from a whopping 68,929 backers.
waited 15 years to make Shenmue 3 – which is a very long time, considering the
cult status the Shenmue games have garnered over the years. Naturally, when it
was announced that the game was up for crowdfunding on Kickstarter, the fans
went berserk. Add to that, Mr. Suzuki is nothing short of a legend in the gaming
circles. Fans rallied under the hashtag #SaveShenmue and helped it reach its
target of $2 million in less than two hours. It eventually raised more than $6
million from 69,320 backers.
Angelarium is a stunning hardcover art-book depicting a divine order. Artist Peter Mohrbacher spent 12 years working on the series and the effort is visible even to the most art-oblivious. The campaign raised its target of $2,04,036 in two hours from 2,522 backers. Talent and brilliant project aside, we really think those to-die-for rewards did it for art-lovers.
So what do these campaigns do right, that makes them sell like hot cakes?
If there’s one thing each of these projects have in common, it’s the strong and vibrant community of supporters the creators have built for themselves. Hell, you might as well call it an army of fans with unwavering loyalty. This is a result of regular engagement on social media, through fresh, interesting and relatable content, as well as constant acknowledgment of fans.
No seriously, whether it’s Angelarium, Cyanide and Happiness or even Pebble Time Watch – the idea has to be unique and the execution flawless enough to blow people’s socks off!
Droolworthy rewards and AWESOME stretch goals:
Take notes from Pebble Watch and Angelarium. The rewards are SO GOOD, you want to fund the project, even if you barely know the creator. Stretch goals work similarly – they need to be designed such that they take the project to a whole new big and awesome level, made possible by fans!
Leave a legacy:
If there’s anything that Shenmue 3’s success teaches us first and foremost, it is the importance of creating something so brilliant, that it becomes a legacy. You revive it a decade later, and fans waste NO time in bringing that damn project to life.
