What is ‘The Other Way’?
In the glitz and the glamour of a Bollywood dominated industry that India has today, we want to tell the story of a parallel filmmaking community whose aim is not to create clichéd blockbusters, but to tell meaningful and thought provoking stories with different perspectives through the medium of cinema. These Indie film makers make movies not for box office returns or mindless entertainment but to tell a different story.
The Other Way will be a feature length documentary (60-90 minutes) following a simple narrative weaving in interviews, footage of film makers at work and an animation based dialogue giving a common man’s perspective of the scene. Our documentary is going to be shot in true indie spirit, i.e. small crews, on location interviews, consumer grade DSLR cameras and guerrilla tactics of film making.
In the documentary, we will be exploring themes such as,
• The Do It Yourself (DIY) indie spirit
• The democratization and reach of independent films
• Methods of distribution and funding.
• The illusion that mainstream cinema is solely owned by Bollywood
• The use of social media for crowd sourcing and promotion
• The future of the Indies
Why your contribution is Important?
By contributing to this project, you are helping in many ways. Firstly you are helping two college kids with very little money realize their dream. Your contributions will go a long way in the production of this film and indirectly your support will help us tell the stories of these filmmakers who have taken the harder route. The people who chose to follow their passion and conviction and have taken the other way.
To be honest, we will not be able to do justice to the documentary if we are to make the movie with the limited finances we have. As of now, we are cutting into our already limited pocket money to fund the film. Oh yes, we do go hungry on days just to use the same money for the film.
