3rd edition of KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival will be held from May 23-27th, 2012 at Cinemax Versova and Alliance Francaise de Bombay. The theme this year is:‘FOR EVERYONE’. The festival is a not-for-profit event and we don’t charge ticket prices or registration fee. It is open to everyone FREE of charge. We rely heavily on individuals, organizations and corporates to make the festival happen and that is why we are asking for your support with a contribution. KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival is the first and only LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) film festival in India to be held in a mainstream theater and the only such festival to receive clearance from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The festival is organized by Solaris Pictures and Bombay Dost in association with The Humsafar Trust.

While KASHISH celebrates LGBTQ cinema with a truly international flavour – bringing some of the best of international LGBTQ films to India – it also provides a much needed platform for Indian independent short films, documentaries and student films to be shown to the public in a theater for the first time. The festival’s mission is to entertain and advocate for mainstreaming of LGBTQ people, life and issues.

While the landmark first edition was held at PVR Cinemas from April 22-25, 2010 and screened 110 films from 25 countries, the second edition was held at Cinemax Versova between May 25-29, 2011 and proved to bigger, bolder and queerer with 123 films from 24 countries. There are five competitive categories which are juried by an eminent panel of celebrity filmmakers, critics, actors and academicians.

The festival has received fantastic support from Bollywood industry with a huge celebrity turnout in the two years : Zeenat Aman, Juhi Chawla, Manisha Koirala, Pooja Bhatt, Onir, Rahul Bose, Sanjay Suri, Samir Soni, Neelam Soni, Purab Kohli, Dolly Thakore, Sai Paranjpye, Khalid Mohammed, Shernaz Patel, Rajit Kapur, Mahesh Dattani, Suhasini Mulay, Mona Ambegoankar, Alyque Padamsee, Karan Mehra, Jitin Gulati, etc.

KASHISH also hosted international filmmakers Q.Allan Brocka (USA), Rikki Beadle-Blair (UK), Georgette Okey (UK) and John Badalu (Indonesia).

KASHISH is not only a festival that spotlights LGBTQ cinema, but has also become a landmark festival in Mumbai’s cultural event calendar.

3rd KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival will be held from May 23-27, 2012 in Mumbai at two venues – a multiplex theater in western suburbs and Alliance Francaise de Bombay in South Mumbai.

KASHISH 2012’s theme ‘FOR EVERYONE’ means that the festival will make a special effort to program films and have panel discussions that not only deal with gay, lesbian, transgender themes, but also those that relate to families and friends of LGBT people. The festival is open FOR EVERYONE and it is a FREE event.
